How perspective changes the way you see numbers?
How perspective changes the way you see numbers?
What if I tell you that you are to build a company which has a sales of 24 crores every year. It seems a bit difficult to visualize, right? Do you know why because you directly saw the big picture without taking into consideration the product, the plan, and the timeline to achieve the same.
Similarly, when you want to manifest big goals, breaking them down to achievable small tasks is the only way to feel that it's actually not that difficult. Let's take big basket for example. Big basket started in 2011, so it's a 9-year-old company. What if someone told Hari Menon(the founder) that you are to deliver grocery to 2 lakh houses in a month when he just started his company. He would say not today I don't have the capacity, but definitely one day. Do you know how many houses he delivers groceries to every single day? See for yourself:
Clearly, delivering to 2,97,440 houses in a single day is difficult to visualize when you are just starting but is achievable with time and right planning and vision. Menon has taken 9 years to reach this level of efficiency.
So how should you actually visualize big goals?
Talking about the 24 crore sales that I asked you. How will a business owner see this number? First of all, he will break it down to smaller manageable chunks. When you divide 24 crores with 365 days, you will get Rs.6,57,534. Now how can you further break this chunk? Divide it by the number of regions you plan to cover. Let's say you sell your product in 60 regions. Then the total sales per region per day will reduce to Rs.10,958. What now? Divide this by your product's price. Let's say your product (grocery, cleaning service, clothing, online courses, podcast, etc.) costs the user Rs.1000. Then divide Rs.10,958 by Rs.1000. The figure reduces to 10.96. Now, what can you do to further break down the 10.96 customers? You are absolutely right. Divide it by the number of working hours of your business per day. If you have an online store it can be open for 24 hours but let's just take 12 hours to keep things simple. The figure has reduced to a mere 0.91 customers :). For better understanding see the table below:
So go break down your goals into small achievable tasks and be determined to achieve them with the passage of time. If people would have only seen the big picture, then companies like Amazon would have feared that how can we even get to a customer base of 15.6 crore prime subscribers. Change the way your mindset works.
